Old age, also known as senescence, is a stage of development in human life that involves changes in various aspects of the individual. These changes are influenced by factors such as culture and geography, and the World Health Organization defines old age as 65 years and older.

Cognitive, physiological, morphological, psychological, social and environmental factors play an important role in the quality of life during this stage. In cognitive terms, changes can be observed in attention, concentration and other mental processes. In some cases, these changes may even be associated with pathologies typical of old age.

On a physical level, old age brings with it a decrease in muscle strength and weakness, which can cause depressive disorders, anxiety and other mental health problems. The family environment plays a crucial role in this stage of life, since if the basic needs of the elderly are adequately attended to, socialization can be promoted and the appearance or development of pathologies can be prevented.

It is important to keep in mind that social isolation can lead to difficulties in old age, accelerating or triggering the appearance of pathologies. Therefore, it is essential to pay attention to the comprehensive health of older adults and guarantee their emotional and social well-being.
